Biome ladder overview

Survive Lava for Animals structures progression across themed stages. Across this wiki we use the ladder:

Grass → Desert → Beach → Underwater → Arctic → Jungle → Ancient → Mythical

Badges and biome index style rewards encourage visiting each stage, but your economy cares most about which eggs you can reliably convert into animals. Parent hub: Animals Hub. Egg rankings: Eggs & Biomes. Animal income: Animals Tier List.

Grass

Purpose: Tutorial biome.

Expect short routes, forgiving lava, and starter eggs. Goals: learn grab prompts, place first hatches, fund treadmill time (Getting Started, Train Speed). Leave once Desert attempts succeed occasionally.

Desert

Purpose: First power spike.

Longer heat-themed paths and better eggs. Goals: replace Grass fillers in the pen, buy first practical trail if needed (Trails Tier List), stabilize returns (Steal Eggs).

Beach

Purpose: Mid-early expansion.

Routes stretch; misreads on ledges hurt. Goals: diversify animals, confirm you can clear with spare lava time before Underwater greed (Survive Lava).

Underwater

Purpose: Midgame identity.

Vertical and submerged pathing mistakes are common. Goals: land hatches that redefine offline earnings, upgrade trampoline/training if jumps fail (Upgrades).

Arctic

Purpose: Mid-late filter.

Chokepoints and tighter timing. Goals: only push when Underwater is consistent; keep pen slots ready for stronger pets (Hatch Animals).

Jungle

Purpose: Bridge to endgame.

Dense paths and more contest in 7-player servers. Goals: bank animals that fund Ancient attempts; rotate nests when contested.

Ancient

Purpose: High-risk premium stage.

Eggs and animals here reshape accounts. Goals: attempt only with spare Speed, best practical trail, and abort discipline. Warm up on Jungle the same session.

Mythical

Purpose: Current ceiling.

Hardest steals on the known ladder. Goals: occasional successful hatches that sit S-tier in the pen until a future update adds higher content (Updates Hub).

Badge / index mindset

If the game tracks biome collection or index rewards, treat them as bonuses on top of income — not as a reason to die repeatedly on a biome you cannot clear. Fill easy index gaps after your pen is healthy.

When to push versus farm

Push when you clear the current biome with spare time most runs. Farm when death streaks burn cash and morale. Farming the previous biome is not failure; it is how offline earnings buy the next trail.

Speed and trail expectations by band

Exact numbers move with patches, so use bands:

  • Grass–Desert: Basic treadmill habits; trails optional but helpful
  • Beach–Underwater: Practical trail recommended; trampoline matters more
  • Arctic–Jungle: Strong Speed plus a real trail; contested path awareness
  • Ancient–Mythical: Spare Speed budget, best practical trail, abort discipline

If you fail upward jumps, upgrade trampoline or training before blaming egg luck (Train Speed, Upgrades). If you fail flat returns, fix trails and lava timing (Survive Lava, Steal Eggs).

Biome session planner

A clean midgame session might spend 20% training, 50% steals on your reliable biome, 20% probing the next biome, and 10% hatching/sorting. Endgame sessions invert that slightly toward fewer, higher-value Ancient or Mythical attempts after a warm-up clear. Always finish by hatching so offline earnings work overnight.

New players should still complete Getting Started before optimizing planners.

Contested biomes and server hopping

Because lobbies max around seven players, a single determined farmer can empty Jungle or Ancient spawns for minutes at a time. If that happens, either drop one biome to keep hatching income flowing, or change servers after a short wait. Do not spend a whole session contesting one nest — your pen cares about hatches per hour, not pride. After a hop, re-check lava timing because stage layouts can feel different when traffic patterns change.

Keep Eggs & Biomes open while you decide whether a contested Mythical egg is worth the drama versus a free Ancient alternative.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common questions.

Grass, Desert, Beach, Underwater, Arctic, Jungle, Ancient, then Mythical.

When should I leave Grass?

When you can attempt Desert with a realistic clear chance after basic treadmill training.

Which biome should I farm for money?

Progression and collection rewards track the ladder. Prioritize income clears first, then fill badge gaps safely.

Where are egg priorities listed?

See the Eggs & Biomes tier list for S/A/B/C steal targets per stage.
